We are committed to promoting the health, safety, and wellbeing of everyone who visits our building, including those with known allergies. This policy outlines the measures we take to minimise the risk of exposure to allergens and to ensure an appropriate response in the event of an allergic reaction.
While we recognise the principles and best practice guidance associated with managing allergies in educational and childcare settings, our provision is not within the scope of the statutory guidance known as Benedict’s Law and is therefore not legally required to comply with its specific requirements. Nevertheless, we are committed to implementing robust procedures and reasonable adjustments to support individuals with allergies and to maintain and safe and inclusive environment for all.
Due to the varying needs of students, staff, and guests participating in classes at Northern Ballet, The Academy and Learning departments have a strict no nut policy. This is extended to the wider building when a visitor/building user has an airborne nut allergy. In these circumstances, all building users are notified in advance.
We must be informed of any allergies upon registration, or as soon as possible following diagnosis. If a student requires an epi-pen, this should be carried with them at all times, and the class teacher should be informed. If the student cannot self-administer the epi-pen, this should be discussed before commencing a class, or course with Northern Ballet with the relevant programme/project manager.
