In Motion – Dance for wheelchair users

Let your creativity flourish and gain the confidence to move in new ways through our specialist wheelchair dance programme, In Motion.

Classes are designed to develop your strength, flexibility and creative expression through Northern Ballet’s unique training methods. Working in a supportive environment with our expert dance artists, you can explore movement either in or out of a wheelchair and be inspired to create your own movement.

Classes are suitable for wheelchair users of any ability (manual or powered) from age eight years to adult. Carers are welcome and are invited to join in the class.

Join us on Sunday 1 March (9.30 - 11.30am) to celebrate International Wheelchair Day and have a go at wheelchair dance! Booking information below.

"The course exceeded my expectations... it’s brilliant to be able to whiz around in a wheelchair at some speed and in much more interesting ways that I usually do at home... The standard of teaching is high and staff have been supportive, flexible and adaptable to our needs. The course has challenged me and enabled me to improve so many things!"

Cost

Attendance costs £5.50 per class, or £4.95 if you have a Breeze Pass.

We offer a free space for carers to join in with the class. We ask that you let us know via the booking form if a carer will be attending the sessions with you. You do not need to book an additional ticket for them.

Please note, bookings will close to new participants after week 5 (Sunday 14 June) in order to facilitate the creation of a group choreography by the end of the course.

Once we have received your completed form, the Project Manager will contact you to confirm your place. We will work with you to select which group you will join on the course, with the aim to create two groups with dancers who are looking for a similar level of challenge.

You will pay for classes on arrival each week at our Reception desk. You will only pay for classes that you attend.

We will stop accepting new dancers from Sunday 14 June.

Sports Wheelchairs

We have a limited number of sports wheelchairs available to borrow during the sessions. If you'd like to use one, please include this in your booking form. Wheelchairs will be allocated on a 'first come, first served' basis.
