Sustainability

Where are we now?

As a registered charity, and one of the busiest and widest touring ballet companies in the UK, we understand that it is vital we respond to the climate emergency and lead the way to a more sustainable theatre industry.

We are working in many ways to change how we operate as a business across all departments and leading positive change amongst our employees and stakeholders.

We are focusing on the three areas within the Theatre Green Book: Operations, Buildings and Productions.

In 2025, we achieved intermediate standard for buildings, making significant improvements to the sustainability of our Quarry Hill base, including the transition to LED lighting and reduction of energy and water consumption. 2025 also marks another year of zero waste going to landfill.

2025 also saw the creation of our new children’s ballet, Hansel & Gretel. While the production did not hit the intermediate standard overall, there was great progress in many areas. Highlights included the creation of a venue green rider, sourcing 38% of materials from reused or recycled sources and ensuring 100% of materials were used again after the production.

In 2026, our focus is on securing intermediate standard for operations, which we are very close to achieving. We will also continue to engage with the productions aspect of the Theatre Green Book, including measuring our revival productions within the productions calculator and embedding sustainable planning into our future work.
