Leading Yorkshire law firm Dickinson Dees has signed sponsorships deals with two of the county’s best-loved sports and arts organisations.
Dickinson Dees, who moved their Yorkshire office from York to Leeds earlier this month (April), have teamed up with Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Northern Ballet.
The firm are the first commercial sponsors of Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s Academy and will also be supporting Northern Ballet’s premier dancers.
John Marshall, the senior partner of Dickinson Dees, commented: “We are absolutely delighted to be sponsoring Yorkshire Country Cricket Club’s Academy and the Leeds-based Northern Ballet. The Academy has produced some brilliant home-grown players for Yorkshire, and is the envy of other cricketing counties across the country, whilst Northern Ballet consistently creates and presents work of the very highest standard.
“Our association with both these popular and high-profile organisations illustrates a firm and lasting commitment to sport and the arts in Yorkshire by Dickinson Dees. Our move to Leeds places us at the heart of the legal and commercial community of the city, but we are determined to be part of the wider social and cultural fabric of the city, too,” said Mr Marshall.
Ian Dews, Head of Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s Academy said: “The Yorkshire Cricket Academy was started by Brian Close and Bob Appleyard back in the early 1980s and has gone on to nurture some of the game’s most talented exponents, including Michael Vaughan, Darren Gough and Johnny Bairstow.
“Of the 5,000 cricket clubs currently active in the UK, almost a thousand are situated in Yorkshire. As impressive as this may seem, the statistic brings with it challenges and opportunities in equal number, as any talent dwelling therein first needs to be spotted, and then fed into the academy.
“This is where sponsorships such as that from Dickinson Dees really come into their own. We are thrilled that Dickinson Dees has agreed to become the Official Sponsor of the Yorkshire Cricket Academy,” he added.
Northern Ballet Director of Fundraising, Jon Ingham, said: ‘As the London Olympics draw ever closer the link between business, sport and culture becomes stronger. We’re delighted that Dickinson Dees have offered their generous support to Northern Ballet’s Sponsor a Dancer Campaign.
“Like Northern Ballet, they encourage the best training opportunities for young people. Not only does Northern Ballet employ world-class dancers from all around the globe, but our academy in Leeds also trains the dancers of the future. Dancers at this level are remarkable athletes in their own right,” said Mr Ingham.
Dancer Jessica Morgan, who was pictured on the pitch with students from the Yorkshire County Cricket Academy, said: “Being an Australian I am a big cricket fan so it has been really great fun to come along here today and practise on the pitch. Our Sponsor a Dancer campaign aims to ensure that Northern Ballet keeps its full complement of 40 dancers. I’m really thrilled that Dickinson Dees have decided to offer their support and all of the dancers in the company are grateful for their encouragement”.
